Job Description: POSITION DESCRIPTION The Compton Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty position to teach courses with emphasis in English. Required Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition; OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above and master's degree in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism;OR The equivalent. Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR possess a valid California Community Colleges instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND Have sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Recent community college teaching experience; coursework and/or teaching experience in reading; demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods; ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles; ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery; effective oral and written communication skills. COMPENSATION HOURLY RANGE: $44.79 - $72.27 (depending upon education and experience) Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Part time teaching assignment(s).
