THE OPPORTUNITY:

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) seeks a Mental Health Counselor to join its award-winning and nationally recognized institution. This is an exciting time to be a part of the HCCC community. The College recently launched its 2021-24 Strategic Plan, the culmination of which will align with the College's 50th anniversary in 2024. The Association of Community College Trustees recognized the College as the 2021 ACCT Northeast Region Equity Award recipient. HCCC's Culinary Arts Institute was ranked as the #6 Culinary Arts program in the United States by Best Choice Schools. Position Summary

The Mental Health Counselor shall report to the Director of Mental Health Counseling & Wellness and provide mental health support to students to achieve their academic objectives and become successful scholars. As a full-time Mental Health Counselor at the Mental Health Counseling & Wellness office, you will be indispensable in advancing student success. The ideal candidate for this position should possess at least two years of experience in a similar capacity and demonstrate a strong understanding of mental health issues in a diverse community college setting. You shall operate by the College's mission statement, program policies and procedures, and established goals and objectives of the Student Affairs Division.

This position requires adaptability as it may be located at either the North Hudson Campus in Union City or the Journal Square Campus in Jersey City, and commuting between campuses may be necessary. While Mental Health Counseling & Wellness operates during regular business hours, employees may sometimes be requested to assist with college-wide events in the evenings or on weekends, allowing for a well-rounded work-life schedule. It's important to note that if a student is in a crisis, the successful candidate may be required to stay later to ensure they relate to appropriate community support, such as a hospital or crisis services. This aspect of the role underscores the critical nature of our work.

Salary Grade: 113

Moreover, the Mental Health Counselor will be able to supervise Master's level Social Work Interns, providing individual and group supervision as required by the Council on Social Work Education, the State of New Jersey, and the specific universities' guidelines. This role allows you to apply your skills and fosters professional growth and development. If an LSW social worker seeks clinical hours towards LCSW, they can have free supervision and earn hours toward the licensure degree.
