Job Title: Full-time Faculty - Global Language and Cultural Studies (Bard Early College New Orleans)

About the Bard Early Colleges

The Bard Early Colleges (BECs) are founded on the belief that many high school-age students are eager and ready for the intellectual challenges of a college education. The Bard Early Colleges act on this belief by providing younger scholars with a tuition-free, credit-bearing college course of study in the liberal arts and sciences following the 9th and 10th grades. Students are taught by college faculty in seminar classes; they receive up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma. The Bard Early Colleges begin preparing students for college work as early as the 9th grade and offer ongoing guidance and academic support.

Now in its third decade, the Bard Early College network of campuses serves over 3,300 students in campuses in Lower Manhattan, the Bronx, and in Queens, New York; Newark, New Jersey; New Orleans, Louisiana; Cleveland, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; and Washington, DC. Since 2003, Bard College has awarded more than 5500 A.A. degrees to its early college students.

Position Duties:

You will have responsibility for dual-accredited courses in three sections of a global language and the Bard Seminar course. All global language sections will have an accompanying lab where students are expected to be immersed in linguistic and cultural practices that highlight and emphasize the language, culture, and history. This renewable appointment focuses on teaching a 4-4 course load, curriculum development, and student support.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Student support, in the form of mentorship of peer tutors and office hours.
  • Participation in Early College Pedagogy trainings, workshops, and roundtables with Bard Early College faculty from the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Sciences.
  • Contribution to BECNO's culture of ongoing curriculum revision, innovation, and experimentation.
  • Participate fully in the life of the school, including committee service, learning commons, and coverage.
