Most of the research will be performed at the university's 7 MV Van de Graaff accelerator facility, however, project travel to larger facilities such as TRIUMF and HIyS to perform complementary experiments is also anticipated. Related topics in nuclear spectroscopy, neutron-induced reactions, and neutron scattering are the focus of the research program. This includes selected studies in forefront areas such as: nuclear structure relevant to double-beta decay, shape transition of nuclei, collective excitations and shape coexistence, as well as precise & accurate neutron scattering cross sections for the development of advanced nuclear reactors, homeland security, and other applications. The measurement of lifetimes in the femtosecond regime with the Doppler-shift attenuation method (DSAM) following inelastic neutron scattering is crucial in many of these studies. The research group frequently works in collaboration with theorists and data evaluators. Additional information about the lab can be found at www.pa.uky.edu/accelerator. Candidates must possess a recent Ph.D. in nuclear science (chemistry or physics). The successful candidate is expected to contribute to all activities of the laboratory and should have demonstrated expertise in nuclear spectroscopy or cross-section measurements.
