Coach Biography

Dr. Sofia B. Pertuz, SHRM-SCP, ACC, CDE

Dr. Pertuz draws from over 25 years of professional experience and research to help mid-level and senior leaders lean on their values and personal missions to step into lives in which they can thrive. Since she has had the benefit of working in a wide variety of settings and industries, she has been exposed to different types of leadership and work styles. She has also participated in several onboarding processes and has planned them, so she uses this experience to help clients create strategies for adjusting to new work environments and to step into new managerial positions. She uses all of her experience to help ambitious and forward-thinking leaders to learn how to recognize their value, track and communicate their accomplishments effectively, and to negotiate their maximum earnings.

I work with leaders who are setting major goals, facing life/career transitions, and are looking to explore, define, and make substantive changes to step into their greatness. Sample coaching agendas include confidence building, developing strategic plans, handling change management, navigating career transitions, negotiations, supervision, leading effective teams, conflict management, imposter syndrome, toxic work environments, and working through identity-related challenges at work.

I am passionate about working with leaders who are inspired to achieve excellence and I believe my role as a coach is to help them gain the clarity and perspective they need to reach their full potential. I am inspired by watching aha moments when coaching clients realize something about themselves that we were able to uncover with the right mix of insightful questions and thoughtful reframing. I know firsthand that some leaders encounter personal and professional challenges as they navigate careers in what can be toxic work environments creating barriers to advancement. I show leaders with high aspirations that with preparation and research, these barriers can be circumvented or knocked down. My goal is to support professionals as they consider all possible pathways to best utilize their gifts and be well compensated for what they have to offer.

What are five strengths you have as a coach?

My practical and affirming coaching approach is to listen intently, ask open-ended questions and thoughtfully reflect what is shared to come up with action-oriented solutions to complex issues. Each person has within them what they need to be successful so we work as a team to bring out the brilliance and creativity to take action steps to move towards excellence. I am committed to creating a socially just world and I dedicate time to activities aiming to create inclusive and caring communities.

What is your professional background?

Dr. Sofia B. Pertuz is an educator, consultant, and certified executive coach who has led organizational transformations in a uniquely varied career spanning over 25 years within higher education, nonprofit and corporate organizations. Sofia currently serves as Managing Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Billie Jean King Enterprises and is the founder of Mainstream Insight, LLC, partnering with organizations and senior leaders providing bespoke DEI advisory services to businesses invested in real change. Sofia previously served as the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer for the Jed Foundation, a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for young people. Sofia has been an invited speaker for international audiences on topics in leadership development, change management, social justice, mental health, and LGBTQ+ advocacy, including delivering keynotes in both English and Spanish. Sofia holds a PhD in Higher Education Leadership, Management, and Policy from Seton Hall University and a Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion for HR from Cornell University. Sofia is a Senior Certified Professional by the Society of Human Resources Management and Certified Diversity Executive®.
